curated secondhand clothing bundle
for tessa
Hann-Me-Down goes abroad! My sweet and incredibly talented friend (seriously – she’s a model, photographer, nail artist, and hair and makeup artist just to name a few things she’s incredible at and accomplished in) Tessa told me she was going to Japan in October and wanted some layerable, breathable, stretchy pieces to bring with her. Currently, she loves wearing long cardigans, well-loved flannels, overalls, and maxi skirts with buttons down the front and pockets. Thrifting in-season items can be tricky, as most folks thrift the same kinds of items at the same times of the year, but I found some great pieces that I’m really excited for Tessa to consider bringing with her to Japan! Have a look at her inspo photos below, and then what I found for her!

tessa’s Bundle
Old Navy Denim Button-Front Skirt
When other gals choose suede and corduroy skirts for fall, choose denim. It’s classic, has the button front she likes, and would look so cute with tights, boots, and a sweater.
blue jamaica bay pants
These pants are soooo soft and breathable, and I think they’ll be so comfortable to wear on an active day. Upon inspection, they’re from a brand called Jamaica Bay, and they seem to specialize in tropical vacation-wear, but I’m impressed with the versatility of their basics!
brown gauze pants
These brown gauzey wide-leg pants with a thick elastic waistband are a dream. I could foresee these being a comfy choice for a travel day, but being honest, I think they’re cool enough to style up for a day out and about. Worn with a graphic tee, denim jacket, and some sandals or sneakers would be so cool.
orange corduroy pants
Tessa told me she would be in Japan for Halloween, so when I spotted these orange corduroy pants, I thought they’d be a cute and festive item to style and wear without being too literal in giving her Halloween-themed apparel.
black loft pants
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a million more times, I love thrifting Loft for clients! The quality is excellent and the silhouettes are timeless. Based on my initial inspection, I’m inclined to believe these pants were never even worn.
black linen midi skirt
Sometimes, styling skirts can feel difficult if there’s nothing on the waistband, but this linen midi skirt has a faux wrap tie detail that makes it feel a little more special and easy to style.
Christian siriano button-down skirt
Another linen skirt! This one has buttons down the front, pockets, and includes the original matching tie belt, which isn’t the most common thing to find secondhand. Huge win!
Striped tank top
Because Tessa asked for some layerability in her bundle, I wanted to include a couple basic tank tops, starting with this really great scoop neck striped tank.
Madewell tank top
Another basic tank, but better, because Madewell just gets it right. I’m convinced this tank top was never worn, because the shade of black is so rich and the ribbing shows no sign of stretch.
Black Overall dress
Overalls are so sought after and tough to find secondhand (in my usual digs, anyways) but finding this denim overall dress felt like a win! I think this would be so cute with a turtleneck underneath, a pair of tights, a chunky pair of boots, and a knit sweater or flannel on top. So cute!
green gauze button down
This gauzey material is so underrated, in my opinion. It’s so soft that it’s almost spongey, making for optimal comfort. I think this would be super cute to wear open over a tank, buttoned up and french tucked, or the trendy middle few buttons buttoned and the bottom few buttons left open.
cropped denim jacket
You may be thinking “umm Tessa asked for comfortable, stretchy, and breathable. Why a denim jacket?” Well, this super cool cropped jacket certainly gives the look of your traditional denim jacket, but it is actually ultra stretchy and soft!
white sonoma linen utility jacket
Two things I don’t typically associate with one another – linen fabric and utility construction. I’ve gotta say, I LOVE the combo. The light fabric, drawstring hem, tortoise buttons, and enormous pockets, it all just works so well and it won’t take up much room in her suitcase!
green knit sweater
I love the three-tiered knit pattern on this sweater. I think it has much more visual intrigue than a sweater with the same knit pattern throughout, and the color is really great!
gingham button down shirt dress
There are few things more autumnal than a gingham print! I can see so many ways to accessorize and add to this dress, but something I loved was that it features some flattering ruching on the sides and sweet tie details on the sleeves that make the dress special all by itself. I would also consider wearing this open almost as a super lightweight duster jacket.
Floral button-front midi dress
Another lightweight button-front win for Tessa’s bundle! This dress looks a little formal on its own, but I think with the right accessories, shoes, and potentially a jacket, it could be worn as an everyday dress.
Dark Denim Jumpsuit
This has to be my favorite piece in Tessa’s bundle. It’s the coolest denim romper with a matching tie belt! It’s super stretchy and cozy and it looks incredibly badass. Of all the items, I hope she gets some good wear out of this one, because I know she’s going to look incredible in it.
Black Old Navy Midi Dress
What looks like your average black dress is actually a really lovely linen blend fit and flare dress with a sweetheart neckline with pockets! I see a lot of great versatility and comfort in this dress.
Fit & Flare flutter-sleeve jumpsuit
Where I lacked in finding proper overalls, I made up for in jumpsuits. The fit of this jumpsuit is so sweet and the flutter sleeves are so beautiful. I’ve seen this exact jumpsuit worn as a wedding guest dress, and I think it certainly can be dressed up enough to be appropriate for the occasion, but I also find it to be very everyday wearable with a more casual shoe and less glitzy jewelry.
Old Navy Cream Cardigan
This has to be the ultimate fall piece – a long, soft, stretchy, cream-colored cardigan. I often find thin, scratchy cardigans while thrifting, so finding a cardigan this plush was so exciting.
Grey knit cardigan
Same story, different cardigan! It’s super soft, stretchy, and cozy, and it’ll be so nice to throw on top of an outfit for some warmth without having to opt for a stiff jacket.
Vintage World Island Flannel Lined Denim Shacket
Okay this has to be my second favorite item in Tessa’s bundle! A flannel lined denim shacket?! What a dream. The denim button-down is incredibly cool all on its own, but adding the flannel lining will allow her to wear it far into autumn into early winter. Could not believe this was still on the rack when I picked it up!
