curated secondhand clothing bundle

for kaitlin

I’m PUMPED about this bundle for Kaitlin! She’s a PhD student looking to add some thrifted pieces to her wardrobe that feel comfortable and professional without aging her. Kaitlin’s inspiration images contained a lot of neutrals, and she mentioned she’s open greens, blues, florals, and plaid patterns as well. While respecting her want for neutrals, I still wanted to give her a little something different (because what better time to try new things than in a thrift bundle?) so I chose a variety of different yet comfortable fabrics, textures, patterns, and pieces with a little something special to keep the bundle from feeling like a box of basics. Here’s a look into her inspiration images:

Madewell Wrap Tank

A personal Hann-Me-Down here! I ended up with two of these exact Madewell wrap tops in my closet and I loved everything about them except how they looked on my body, so one went to a friend, and one I saved for Kaitlin’s bundle, because it’s comfy, looks a little more elevated and professional than your ordinary tank top, and is incredibly versatile.

Pink Rose Knit Vest Tank

And another true Hann-Me-Down! This super soft boxy sweater vest actually came from my best friend’s closet, and I LOVE it, but it’s another piece that just hugs my body in its widest spot and it made more sense for what Kaitlin is after, so off it goes to its new home! It was perfect how it all turned out, because Kaitlin had a few sweater vests on her Pinterest board of inspiration photos.

Zara Trf Pleated Collared Tank

Sometimes when outfits are comprised of strictly neutrals, you can feel the pressure to work overtime with accessories to balance or complete the outfit, so I wanted to find generally neutral pieces for Kaitlin with at least something fun or visually intriguing so she didn’t feel that pressure. The pleated collar with the white tie accent was just what I was looking for and didn’t even know it until I saw it. I could totally see this piece styled up for a professional event or dressed down for dinner with friends.

Rachel Roy V-neck Blouse

Since they all can’t be stars of the show, I  added this black v-neck blouse to Kaitlin’s bundle – adding some basics for versatility. It’s super lightweight and flowy, and has just a bit of a sheen to it that gives it just a hint of fanciness.

Dusty Green Ann Taylor Button Down

Branching out and adding some beautiful dusty sage green to Kaitlin’s bundle! Ann Taylor is a brand I love thrifting, especially for professional settings. The fabric is always super comfortable and the durability is always up to par (which is so hard to find these days – I feel like clothing needs replaced far too often).

En Saison Button Down

This is one of the coolest pieces in Kaitlin’s bundle, in my opinion! Kaitlin mentioned to me that she’s a geography student and would be open to something like a topographic map inspired print, and while I remained hopeful and open to finding something to accommodate the thought, everything wavy ended up being too ~groovy~ and not hitting the vibe. That being said, I found this gorgeous silky En Saison button down with drawings of faces that could totally be dressed up for a work setting, and I’m hopeful the willingness for a line-filled print will translate, even if it’s more wavy lines of people and less wavy lines of places.

Whiteroom + Cactus Floral Button Down

This might be the most “out of the box” piece in Kaitlin’s bundle with a dramatic ruffle detail cascading from the shoulders and a busy floral pattern throughout. That being said, the colors are muted enough to where the top isn’t so dramatic that it couldn’t be worn in a professional setting.

Larry Levine Suits Houndstooth Jacket

This Larry Levine Suits houndstooth jacket has a blazer feel to it, but classier somehow. The shades of brown in the houndstooth pattern feel classy, and the zipper pockets are incredibly cool.

Eileen Fisher Linen Blend Pants

I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a million more times, no one does linen quite like Eileen Fisher. These wide-leg super soft linen blend pants were a no brainer. They’re at an interesting crossroads of brown and grey, making for great versatility.

Old Navy Wide-Leg Pants

There’s nothing I find more versatile than a pair of black wide-leg pants, so I was thrilled to find these Old Navy pants for Kaitlin’s bundle. I’m thrilled to start seeing more and more wide-leg pants at thrift stores!

Black Corduroy Pants

You may be thinking “didn’t you just show me a pair of black wide-leg pants for this bundle?” and you would be correct, but there are a few differences between the two pants to note. These are corduroy, adding a little textural intrigue, and they’re longer than the Old Navy pair, giving Kaitlin the option to wear a pair of heels or boots without length being a consideration in the overall look (trust me, I have experienced way too many times the pain of boots absolutely sabotaging the look of an otherwise great pair of pants).

A New Day Patterned Pants

Another opportunity to work a little line art into Kaitlin’s bundle! Again, this is very clearly not a topographic map, but the brushed squiggle lines on this super comfy linen blend pair of pants was just too good not to add to Kaitlin’s bundle.

Brown Ralph Lauren Jeans

Brown pants are shockingly difficult to thrift these days for some reason, so I was so glad to find this pair of brown Ralph Lauren jeans in Kaitlin’s size! She had quite a few pairs of brown pants on her Pinterest board and I was on a mission to find a pair that wasn’t a starchy pair of polyester trousers.

J. Crew Jumpsuit

Last, but certainly not least, the star of the show (in my eyes) is this unbelievably lovely J. Crew jumpsuit with the most beautiful tie back detail! J. Crew is another brand I love thrifting, specifically for more upscale or professional occasions, and I just can’t believe I found this jumpsuit secondhand. While it is a fairly neutral piece overall, the bow can be tied and fanned in a way that it can be a standout piece, or pulled into a smaller bow with longer tails for a more subdued and elegant look. This is such a fun and versatile piece and I hope Kaitlin gets a kick out of it just as much as I do!
